Immigration - Foreign Workers

There is no doubt that this topic has given rise to a substantial number of open comments, some of which are extremely blunt but not necessarily offensive. Most respondents feel a great sense of nationalism and clearly believe that the homeland is the first priority!

Others believe that there is great benefit to be derived from employing immigrant workers in sectors where we as a nation are unable to provide the appropriate skills. In particular, the construction industry and dentistry have been singled out for specific mention

I believe the government allows the 'black economy' to grow to keep wages down and people worried about taking action about poor wages and high bills.

Male Respondent - North of England

Here are just a few of the comments that we have received over the last few weeks!

Yes - Allow people to come here to work but they should not be allowed to claim benefits until they have been here at least two years and paid taxes like everyone else

Female Respondent - Scotland

While we need tradesmen and qualified professionals to compensate past governments neglect, there is no logic in allowing unemployable migrants to take advantage of the weak willed ministers of this present government. Being subservient to the idealist who's only wish is to change a stable society into the terrible situations that eastern regimes are experiencing is the road to disaster, and what we need is a strong, and determined, character to avert the potential downfall of a once proud nation.

Male Respondent - Non UK resident

Have your say!

If this country needs certain skills and the government have failed to provide the incentives or training opportunities for our own British work force to fill then it makes sense to employ foreign workers. But the burning question remains - has the government done sufficient to address the issue in the first place? And any foreign worker who joins our economy must expect to pay into our tax and insurance welfare scheme before they receive any benefits from it!

Female Respondent - Central England

The topic results, shown above, highlight two questions which have attracted an amazing unanimous response. There are issues which the British people appear to address with considerable frankness and scepticism and the government is clearly falling short of expectation levels in relation to a controlled level of immigrant workers into the UK and the ability to resolve the issues. The added burden on social sector housing and welfare benefits has aroused considerable concern and anxiety.

Great Britain is a tiny island in comparison to the rest of the world.

We are rapidly becoming overcrowded and sadly many good British

people are leaving our population to live and work abroad!
